Ontario’s Private Career Colleges
The Agenda with Steve Paikin
Ontario is home to more than 500 private career colleges. They attract students anxious to get into the work force: those with families to support, immigrants looking to upgrade credentials, or laid-off workers working toward career change. But there have also been challenges. In 2015, Everest College, a U.S.-based chain of private colleges operating 14 locations in Ontario suddenly filed for bankruptcy, leaving many students out in the cold. Serge Buy, CEO of the National Association of Career Colleges joins The Agenda to discuss the role these institutions play, and why he believes private career colleges should have access to the same opportunities as public ones.
